PROPHETIC WORDS
MATAKITE – THE CLOUD PIERCER
by Lyn Packer
This painting was done during a worship time while at the Revival School in Te Anau, New Zealand in 2014. Because of time constraints during worship it is a mix of collage and painted aspects.
The word 'Matakite' is the Maori word for ‘seer’ or ‘prophet’; so this painting is a prophetic word or call to the Maori people of the nation to step into a new awareness and function in the prophetic revelatory gifts. Many Maori have a great ability to see into the revelatory realm, regularly receiving visions and having heavenly and spiritual realm encounters. The founding church leaders in New Zealand didn’t understand that this was a gift from the Lord, so many Maori were forced to shut down their prophetic gift because it didn’t fit in with how the church leaders saw the spiritual gifts at that point in time.
In this painting the clouds represent the cloud of God’s presence (the glory) being released and covering the nation – they surround the woman.
That’s a call to be children who walk in the midst of the cloud and who ascend and descend out of the cloud of His glory – a people called to be cloud piercers.
The ladder represents the ability, and call, to live from two realms simultaneously - the eternal Kingdom realm and the earthly realm, just as in Jacob's vision with the angels and the ladders that ascended into Heaven in Gen 28:11-17.
The seven eagles represent the prophetic mantle over the nation, a function of which is being able to see from above where we are seated with Christ in Heavenly places; to see God’s plans, and the enemy’s strategies, and to inform others of what they see there. The eagles also represent the Haast Eagle, which while now extinct, was a part of our nation, and so they also represent the restoration of all things. Included in that is a renewed call for the Maori to step into their rightful place as prophets and seers in the land, a restoration of that gift. The number seven represents perfection and completeness.
The land represents the nation, the woman rising from the land represents her oneness with the land and the Koru signifies that in Christ we are one reborn Cosmos – people and land – redeemed from the curse, sanctified and set apart for the purposes of God through, and in, Christ Jesus.
In light of that, the call goes forth - Matakite - prophets, seers - wake up, wake up, wake up. – Tihei Mauriora, Tihei Mauriora, Tihei Mauriora!
